In October last year, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Assembly adopted a resolution establishing 2018 as the Lower Silesian Year of the Oder River. Other voivodeships joined the initiative: Silesian, Opole, Lubusz and West Pomeranian.

− We care about implementing all projects related to restoring the Oder’s transport functions, coordinated with flood-control investments carried out on the river and its tributaries. In addition, we want the banks of the entire Oder to come alive again. That is why we created the “Lower Silesian Oder Fund 2018,” says Marshal Cezary Przybylski.

As part of the celebrations of the Year of the Oder River, the “Towards the Oder” competition has been launched. It concerns the implementation of all kinds of sports, tourism and recreation projects, as well as cultural and educational projects, which will encourage sporting activity and active tourism on the Oder and its tributaries, as well as on other bodies of water in Lower Silesia. The local government also encourages the promotion of cultural and environmental-education activities related to the river and water.

The Voivodeship Board announced an open call for proposals for the implementation of public tasks related to the Oder, its tributaries and other bodies of water. Applications can be submitted from 2 to 23 March 2018. The competition accepts proposals concerning two areas:

  • promotion and dissemination of sports and recreational activities related to the water environment – events, sports competitions and regular activities on the Oder, its tributaries, bodies of water and reservoirs, as well as Lower Silesian rivers; promotion of various water sports and activities practised in the immediate vicinity of water
  • promotion of tourism and the region’s tourist attractions – tourist events aimed at disseminating and popularising active tourism carried out on the Oder River, its tributaries, bodies of water and reservoirs, as well as Lower Silesian rivers; increasing awareness and knowledge concerning conduct on watercourses and bodies of water.
