On 26 February 2018, an agreement on cooperation between Republika Srpska and Lower Silesia was signed in Wrocław. The agreement was signed by Republika Srpska Deputy Prime Minister Srebrenka Golić and Marshal Cezary Przybylski. The agreement was initialled in the presence of, among others, local-government representatives from Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County, as well as the Association of Returnees from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends.
The ceremony was enhanced by a folk performance by a group from the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramic Centre
- The main provisions of the agreement concluded between the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and Republika Srpska concern support for cooperation in the following areas:
- the economy
- tourism
- science and technology
- culture
- education
- youth cooperation
- environmental protection and cooperation between spa resorts
- social affairs
- transport
- administration
- the use of European Union funds and Community programmes to support regional development.
“The agreement will be very helpful in the activities of the Bolesławiec Association of Returnees from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends, which for several years has been actively involved in a number of projects aimed, among other things, at preserving in Bosnia the memorial sites from which the Association’s oldest members returned to Poland,” says Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.
On this occasion, it is worth mentioning the project “70 Years Since the Return of Poles from Bosnia – Strengthening the Cultural Identity of the Polish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which resulted in a book by Tomasz Jacek Lis entitled “From Bosnia to Poland”; a conference in Prnjavor entitled “Poles on Bosnian Soil – 70 Years After Their Departure”; reconstructions of returnees’ settlements during subsequent editions of the Balkan Culture Festival; a series of open meetings entitled “Save from Oblivion – 70 Years Since the Return of Poles from Bosnia”; numerous works at Polish cemeteries in Bosnia; and the cleaning and marking of discovered burial sites on Bosnian soil.
