A Bolesławiec Law and Justice activist, Szymon Pogoda, published a letter from Mayor Piotr Roman on his Facebook profile. The mayor wrote that he welcomed the initiative of the Law and Justice Committee in Bolesławiec to name the square by the municipal pond on Bankowa Street “100th Anniversary of Independence.”
The matter, P. Roman wrote, will first be referred to the Infrastructure and Construction Committee. If it issues a positive opinion on the proposal, the Bolesławiec City Council will be able to adopt the relevant resolution as early as February.
We reported on this matter in January this year. “We asked the mayor to name the square on Bankowa Street the 100th Anniversary of Independence,” Jan Russ, a Bolesławiec County Council member and head of Law and Justice in Bolesławiec, told us at the time. As the PiS chairman explained, the aim is to commemorate the anniversary of this event and create a place on Bankowa where celebrations of all important national holidays could be held, including May 3 and November 11. In J. Russ’s opinion, the site by the defensive walls, where the so-called Smolensk plaque was installed, does not meet these requirements.
The idea for the name of the square on Bankowa came from Law and Justice activist Szymon Pogoda. Jan Russ, meanwhile, came up with the idea of erecting a National Remembrance monument in the square. “It should be a monument that will not offend anyone and that will unite all Poles,” the local PiS chairman stressed. “Its construction, however, remains under consideration. We would like the Bolesławiec community to become involved in this initiative.”
