In addition to numerous events aimed at skiing enthusiasts, Polana also hosts biathlon events, cross-country races at Polish Cup level and races for the Karkonosze Cup, overseen by the host of this venue, the Stowarzyszenie Bieg Piastów.
The reputation of Polana Jakuszycka means that tens of thousands of skiers use its trails every year; however, outdated and dilapidated infrastructure makes it difficult to fully realise its potential. The time has therefore come to modernise the buildings and sports facilities. The investment is scheduled for completion in January 2020, resulting in the creation of one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the world: the “Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu – Jakuszyce”.
The investor behind the new development at Polana is Dolnośląski Park Innowacji i Nauki S.A., a public company with a majority stake held by the local government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The planned investment aims to modernise and expand sports infrastructure intended for hosting the highest-level cross-country skiing competitions. It will also serve as a year-round training centre for various competitive sports, with facilities for biological regeneration and Paralympic preparation.
The modern buildings will include, among other things, rooms with training infrastructure adapted to athletes’ needs, including athletes with disabilities, as well as an underground car park, changing rooms, waxing rooms, a swimming pool, a gym with a biological regeneration area, an educational and conference centre, and restaurant and accommodation areas for tourists and skiing enthusiasts. A year-round venue for sports activity will be created. Young people from sports championship schools will also be invited to participate in cooperation.
The construction of a modern, full-size biathlon shooting range is also planned at Polana Jakuszycka. In addition, with summer sports and recreational activity in mind, a project has been created for the construction of the first stage of roller-ski tracks, an inline skating route, a seasonal multi-purpose sports field together with an athletics track, and infrastructure for cyclists, including bicycle repair stations and wash stations.
The Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu – Jakuszyce project has been designed so that Polana can be adapted within a short time to host the highest-level international skiing and biathlon competitions and then, equally quickly, returned to everyday users of the trails. It is important to emphasise that the planned investment will not change the rules for using Polana’s infrastructure. Access to the ski trails, roller-ski tracks and some of the changing rooms will be free of charge.
Every construction project, including this one, entails some disruption. From the start of construction work, scheduled for April 2018, until its completion in December 2020, the area of Polana Jakuszycka covered by the works will be fenced off and inaccessible to skiers and tourists. It is important, however, that the Stowarzyszenie Bieg Piastów will continue, from its temporary headquarters, to oversee your safety during races and the ski trails, which will remain fully accessible. Representatives of the investor will also be available to provide you with the necessary information about the project being carried out and the ongoing work.
The investor, Dolnośląski Parku Innowacji i Nauki S.A., apologises in advance for any disruption that may occur and assures you that it will make every effort to provide you with modern and attractive infrastructure at Polana Jakuszycka as soon as possible.
