On Thursday, January 22, the “From Craft to Art” competition was decided at the Agora bookshop. Nearly 30 people took part. “We were very positively surprised, above all by the great interest the competition aroused among the Bolesławiec community and beyond,” said Tadeusz Orawiec from the Museum of Ceramics during the awards ceremony. “The level was very high, but at the same time very even. Individual places were decided by single points, and even half-points,” he added.

Why did the Museum of Ceramics announce a competition related to ceramics from Reinhold’s factories? “The From Craft to Art exhibition is an international event. We wanted Bolesławiec residents to take an interest in it. We did not want it to pass unnoticed,” explains Anna Bober-Tubaj, director of the Museum. “From a scientific perspective, it is a major discovery. We spoke with people from the industry. In their opinion, it is a milestone for Bolesławiec ceramics,” she adds.

As the scientists themselves acknowledge, the competition questions were difficult. However, the participants handled them without major problems. “We were impressed,” says Anna Bober-Tubaj. “The competition required not only coming to the exhibition and viewing the exhibits, but above all reading the catalogue published by the Museum more carefully,” adds Tadeusz Orawiec.

We asked the winners about the beginnings of their fascination with ceramics. “My dad encouraged me to take part in the competition,” says Adam Kaziuk, winner of first place in the under-12 category. The boy admits that he particularly likes ceramics from Reinhold’s factories. “I am trying to instill a love of ceramics in both him and my daughters,” says Andrzej Kaziuk, the winner’s father and a collector. – “The children watch every day as I sit over books or bring home more exhibits and classify them. I encouraged my children to do the same, but it is hard to say what will happen next. I would like my son to follow in my footsteps.”

“Bolesławiec ceramics interests me greatly because it has a soul,” says Adam Stasiak, winner of second place in the 13–19 age category. – “I am a young collector. I collect ceramics and I think I will continue doing so.”
