Light for Syria Foundation, founded by Renata Grzybczak, operates according to a simple principle familiar to us all: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome travelers into your home.
A year ago, when Aleppo was under siege, the whole world, including Poles, called for the creation of humanitarian corridors, through which civilians could be evacuated to safer areas. Unfortunately, this did not happen. The corridors were not established, and families befriended by the foundation were relocated to other parts of the war-torn country. In mid-September 2017, Putin’s forces supporting Assad began dropping bombs on Idlib and the areas around Damascus. All the larger cities of the country, tormented by five years of war, also came under fire.
The foundation is currently raising money for:
- help for a family of seven orphaned children whose parents died in the bombardment of Aleppo a year and a half ago (the children are cared for by their grandmother and grandfather, who lost both legs at that time)
- help for a family with four children whose father lost his feet in the bombing of the market in Atarib on November 13, 2017
- help with paying rent, because displaced families have lost everything they had built up over their lives, including their homes and jobs
- help for people fleeing the bombardments from Deirr Ezzour (we provide them with food, and milk for the children)
- help with maintaining hygiene because of an outbreak of lice among a group of five hundred orphans, mainly aged under 10
- the fight against hunger, which is severely affecting the area of eastern Ghouta
Displaced people lack everything: water, electricity and heating. The labor market is very limited. People fleeing death continue to arrive because of the escalating bombardment of nearby Idlib and the villages of Idlib. People in their homes have no heating. There are camps nearby where people are dying from the cold and lack of basic necessities. Orphans need care and psychological support, love resembling parental love, while children with disabilities also need rehabilitation.
