In mid-October, an illegal connection bypassing the meter was discovered in the home of Jan K, director of the Provincial Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill in Bolesławiec.
An investigation was launched. “Evidence is currently being collected in the case of the theft of gas over the past 15 years, an expert has been appointed, and calculations of the final value of the stolen gas are under way at ZG Zgorzelec,” said Police press spokesman Grzegorz Górski. The value of the stolen gas is important in formulating the charges.
It appears, however, that the case has reached an impasse. It is still not known how to calculate the losses. Among other things, it is necessary to establish how many years the illegal installation was used. This obligation rests with the injured party, which in this case is the Gas Utility in Zgorzelec. The utility is having difficulty doing so. If it does not determine the losses soon, the police will have to appoint an expert.
There is currently no progress in the case, and everything indicates that it will nevertheless be necessary to seek an expert opinion. The police will probably add an expert to the case by the end of November.
As prosecutor Regina Haniszewska reports, no one has yet been charged, and this will not be possible until the losses suffered by the Zgorzelec Gas Utility have been assessed.
