The Gateway to Regional History was a nationwide project whose main objective was to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of regional history and show how it can be nurtured through various activities so that it is not forgotten.

It is extremely important that young members of the local community know where they come from and what the history of the place where they live is. An important aspect is the ability to acquire this knowledge by analyzing historical sources and talking to witnesses of history.

During the project, participants took part in history workshops, educational games, meetings with witnesses of history, museum and archival lessons, and a scientific camp in Szczecin. They learned about the history of their grandparents and great-grandparents, presented by experts and witnesses to those events, including Jan Bujak, Kamilla Dudek, Helena Strzelczak, Stanisława Zięcik and Zbigniew Junkiewicz. After the project concludes, an e-publication entitled “The Gateway to Regional History” will be released, containing the participants’ work from three regions of Poland. The theme for participants from our region was: “Lower Silesia – the experiences and first years after Poles arrived in the Western Territories after 1945.”

Students from Primary School in Kruszyn, Primary School in Żeliszów and Primary School in Kraśnik Dolny took part in the project activities in our region. Public libraries in the above-mentioned localities supported the organization of the meetings.

The “Solidarni Razem” Association thanks all project participants and everyone involved in its implementation. It extends special appreciation for her commitment to the project to Grażyna Wężyk, and to Dariusz Kunaszko and Sebastian Zielonka.

The project is carried out by the “Solidarni Razem” Association and co-financed by the Ministry of National Education as part of the task entitled: “Programme Supporting the Development of Exceptionally Talented Students.”
