The Academy’s aim is to provide students and teachers with basic knowledge of film and audiovisual art. The classes take the form of a lecture combined with a film screening. The lectures cover content included in the curricula and in the films presented.
The lecture topics cover various areas of knowledge, united by a common focus on contemporary culture. They include issues related to the film adaptation of a literary work, the persuasive function of advertising, and contemporary myths of pop culture.
The first meeting took place on Friday in the Forum cinema auditorium. It was led by Dr Marcin Skorek, a researcher at the University of Silesia, in the Department of Film Studies and Media Knowledge. Dr Marcin Skorek also owns three cinemas in Silesia.
The topic of Friday’s meeting was “Comparing Cultural Texts: The Language of Film versus Literary and Visual Communication.” After the lecture, the film “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” directed by Peter Webber, was screened.
