Road traffic officers will conduct the “Alcohol and Drugs – St Andrew’s Day Party” operation on November 25–26. Its aim will be to remove from the roads drivers under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances.

“St Andrew’s Day is associated by everyone with lively parties and fortune-telling. Many drivers, getting into their cars afterwards, forget about basic safety rules, including one of the most important ones—sobriety behind the wheel,” say the Bolesławiec officers. “We appeal for caution on the road and sober driving. Driving while intoxicated is a crime and poses a real threat to road users.

Let us recall that for driving while intoxicated, a driver will be banned from driving for at least three years. Regardless of the sentence imposed, the court must order a monetary payment of no less than PLN 5,000 (in the case of a person committing this offence for the first time) and no less than PLN 10,000 when the person has driven while intoxicated again. The financial penalty for causing an accident while intoxicated is at least PLN 10,000. For driving while intoxicated and for causing an accident while intoxicated, the court may ban a driver from driving for 15 years; the minimum period for which the ban will be imposed is three years.

Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of an intoxicating substance is punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment.
