The incident occurred on the night of November 20–21 in Kowary, in the apartment of 34-year-old Arkadiusz Z. and his 25-year-old common-law partner. Z. attacked his partner. He injured her legs with the blade of a machete. He punched her all over her body and hit her with the handle of the dangerous weapon. He also allegedly strangled her with a chain. The victim suffered a number of injuries, including a chop wound to the lower leg (an open fracture).
The woman managed to call an ambulance and the police. She was immediately taken to hospital, where she underwent surgery. She remains under medical care.
At the time of the incident, the couple’s four-month-old child was in the apartment. Fortunately, the infant was unharmed. The child was handed over to its grandmother.
The 34-year-old aggressor was arrested. On November 22, he was charged with causing the victim serious bodily injuries. He did not plead guilty.
At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded Z. in temporary custody for three months. The man could face up to 15 years in prison.
