The second project meeting will feature films on the borderline between comedy and drama. The films presented as part of the project touch on the customs of everyday life, almost ludicrous celebrations, as well as the dramas embedded in the life stories of so-called provincial people. The invited guest will be the outstanding Polish theatre, television and film actress Tamara Arciuch (who plays one of the main roles in “The Wedding”).

Meeting no. 2

  • November 25, 2017
  • Venue: CIK Orzeł, ul. Chopina 17, Bolesławiec
  • 4:00 p.m. screening of “Wild Bees”
  • 6:30 p.m. screening of “The Wedding”
  • 8:30–9:30 p.m. meeting with Tamara Arciuch

The Wedding (directed by Wojciech Smarzowski) – one of the most interesting Polish productions of the 21st century, in which Smarzowski once again proved that he is a director endowed with intuition and an extraordinary gift for observation. “The Wedding” is a very realistic film; at times, one may get the impression that it takes the form of a wedding chronicle. The perfectly chosen leads (Marian Dziędziel’s brilliant portrayal of the bride’s father), distinctive supporting characters, set design resembling a shabby fire station, and other significant props create a whole that is equally entertaining and thought-provoking.

The film won many prestigious awards in Poland and abroad. The most important include three awards at the Gdynia Film Festival (Best Actor – Marian Dziędziel, the Critics’ Award and the Special Jury Award), as well as seven Eagles (the awards of the Polish Film Academy).

Wild Bees (directed by Bohdan Sláma) – helpless in the face of poverty, the inhabitants of a small village live from day to day. They await the village’s only joyful event – the local fire brigade celebration… This is a very simplified summary of the film’s plot. Sláma’s film shows viewers the Czech countryside, where almost everyone gets drunk on suspicious-looking vodka… bought on credit from a plywood shack pretending to be a shop. The only echo of the wider world is the roar of Lady’s moped, ridden by a charmer styling himself after Michael Jackson.

“Wild Bees” won numerous awards at international festivals, including those in Rotterdam and San Francisco, as well as at the Warsaw International Film Festival (Best Film 2002). The film also won Czech Lions awards (presented by the Czech Film and Television Academy).

Tamara Arciuch – a Polish theatre and film actress; a graduate of the Kraków PWST. Despite her numerous successes on the small and big screens, the stage is her true element. She demonstrated her exceptional talent for creating comic characters on the stage of the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, playing Roxie Hart in the musical “Chicago”. She made her big-screen debut in 1997 in Jarosław Żamojda’s crime film “Young Wolves 1/2”. She appeared in popular television series, including “Adam i Ewa”, “M jak miłość”, “Oficer”, “Niania”, “Halo Hans” and “Ojciec Mateusz”. She broke away from her screen image of negative characters by playing Kaśka Wojnarówna, the bride in Wojciech Smarzowski’s film “The Wedding”. After the success of “The Wedding”, she appeared in many Polish productions, including “Nie kłam kochanie”, “Złoty środek”, “Och Karol 2”, “Wojna żeńsko-męska” and the recent “7 rzeczy, których nie wiecie o facetach”.
