On Monday, Jerzy Szmajdziński, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm and a member of the Democratic Left Alliance, visited Bolesławiec. Jerzy Szmajdziński. The politician came to our city at the invitation of the Bolesławiec left. He was welcomed by Stanisław Chwojnicki, chairman of the SLD District Council. Members and supporters of the Alliance attended the meeting with Jerzy Szmajdziński, which took place at the SLD headquarters on Opitza Street.
The meeting addressed the situation on the local political scene. SLD activists raised with Jerzy Szmajdziński the issue of the discontinued railway connections between Bolesławiec and Wrocław. They also discussed SLD’s recent political decisions, including those concerning bridging pensions. Jerzy Szmajdziński explained to the residents of Bolesławiec that it was untrue that rejecting President Kaczyński’s veto had deprived one million people of their previous pension entitlements. According to the Deputy Marshal, trade-union representatives themselves were not fully aware of how many people would lose their entitlements. Szmajdziński also denied that SLD was in a coalition with PO. According to the SLD MP, the left voted to reject the veto, choosing the lesser evil, while the act itself would be referred to the Constitutional Tribunal anyway.
Deputy Marshal Szmajdziński also mentioned SLD’s plans. In his view, over the coming months the Alliance must focus on defining the party’s political line and developing a new media strategy. At the end of the meeting, the MP offered holiday greetings to SLD activists and supporters.
