The concept involves creating coherent links between the entire urban cycling network and its existing and future elements. The results will include: increased bicycle traffic, improved safety, greater tourist appeal for the city and its surroundings, reduced noise and emissions of toxic gases, and lower infrastructure maintenance costs.
The plan provides for the creation of six main routes with a total length of approximately 70 kilometres and 12 supplementary routes. The entire network of connections will comprise considerably more than one hundred kilometres of cycle paths. Traffic-calmed zones, with a speed limit of up to 30 km/h, are also planned. Following the example of other cities, allowing cyclists to travel against the direction of traffic on one-way roads is being considered. Bicycle stations and many parking spaces will be created. The system will be compatible with rental city bikes, which have already become firmly established in Legnica.
