The District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra has launched an investigation into the death of a worker at a production plant in Mysłakowice. The tragedy occurred on October 5. The victim’s arm was crushed by a component of one of the machines located on the plant’s premises. The man sustained serious injuries and died despite resuscitation efforts.
Preparatory proceedings are being conducted by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. They are intended to establish whether the victim’s death resulted from a failure to fulfill duties by those responsible for occupational health and safety.
So far, an inspection of the accident scene and of the machine at which the victim was located when his arm was crushed by one of its components has been carried out with the participation of an expert. A representative of the State Labour Inspectorate in Jelenia Góra also carried out activities at the scene.
People who may have had knowledge of the incident were questioned as witnesses, and documentation was secured. A forensic medicine expert was appointed and conducted an autopsy of the victim on October 6, 2017.
If it is found that duties were neglected, those responsible for occupational health and safety at the company could face up to five years in prison.
