Conservation work in the lapidarium, carried out since June, was conducted as part of the “Showing Forgotten Monuments of History” project, whose Polish-side value amounted to nearly PLN 140,000.00. The project, implemented in cooperation with its Czech partner—the Hrádek nad Nisou Municipal Office—is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and from the state budget through the Nysa Euroregion. Eight sculptures were restored. They include a medieval penitential cross from Kruszyn, a 17th-century tombstone of Bolesławiec merchant Salomon Dröwig, a fragment of a 17th-century tombstone of an unknown Bolesławiec potter, Baroque statues of St. John of Nepomuk and St. Nicholas, a Classicist tombstone of Bolesławiec potters Johann Gottlieb and Ernst Benjamin Joppe, and two 19th-century matzevot from the Bolesławiec Jewish cemetery. After conservation, the monuments were placed on granite plinths, which, on the one hand, make the monuments more visible and, on the other, protect them from ground moisture.

Nearly 100 people attended the project summary event, which included lectures and a presentation of the sculptures. Among the guests was a 40-person group from Hrádek nad Nisou with official representatives: Hrádek nad Nisou Deputy Mayor Pavel Farský, Head of the Department of Grants, Development and Culture Jana Davidová, Director of the Brana Trojzemi Cultural Centre Vit Štrupl, and Investment Department officer Pavel Nyvlt. Our city was represented by Deputy Mayor Kornel Filipowicz and City Secretary Jerzy Zieliński. Numerous enthusiasts of Bolesławiec’s history and monuments also attended, along with representatives and members of local associations and organizations. Anatol Brudnowski, a representative of the Nysa Euroregion, was also present.

Pavel Farský and Kornel Filipowicz opened the formal project summary by jointly discussing the significance of the undertaking for the cross-border cooperation between the two cities, which has been developing intensively in recent years. Next, Anna Bober-Tubaj, Director of the Museum of Ceramics, briefly presented the project’s main objectives and course, and thanked everyone who had contributed to its implementation. The next items on the programme were educational in nature. Vit Štrupl gave a comprehensive lecture on the architecture and monuments of Hrádek nad Nisou, while Barbara Glinkowska briefly introduced the history of the Bolesławiec lapidarium and the monuments gathered there. The meeting participants then viewed the sculptures in the museum lapidarium, asking those responsible for the completed work a number of questions, and toured the city.
