– The campaign was a success; even the weather was on our side – the organizers say. – The activities took place at the crossing near Primary School No. 3. The children learned how to behave near a roadway and when crossing it. As a keepsake, all the children received reflective vests and backpack reflectors so that they would be more visible.

Mrówka reminds us:

  1. The correct way to cross the road:
    • stop before the crossing and assess the situation
    • look left and check whether a vehicle is approaching from that side
    • look right and check whether a vehicle is approaching from that side
    • look left once more
    • looking left, walk decisively across the marked pedestrian crossing
    • in the middle of the road, look right and make sure that no one is still approaching.
  2. At a pedestrian crossing, the following are prohibited:
    • running
    • turning back
    • walking at a leisurely pace.
  3. At a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights, always wait for the green signal on the pedestrian signal.
  4. At a bicycle crossing, always wait for the green signal and then cross the road.
  5. When you see a traffic controller standing facing you, always stop; when the police officer directing traffic stands sideways to you and lowers their arms, cross the road.
  6. When crossing the road, always take the shortest route.
  7. Crossing the road outside a pedestrian crossing:
    • If the nearest marked crossing is more than 100 meters away, a pedestrian may cross the road provided that they do not endanger traffic safety or impede vehicle traffic and that they: yield to approaching vehicles; walk to the opposite edge of the road by the shortest route, perpendicular to the road’s centerline.
    • If an intersection is located less than 100 meters from a designated crossing, crossing is also permitted at that intersection under the same conditions described above.
  8. When crossing the road, pedestrians must remember that the following are prohibited:
    • entering the road directly in front of a moving vehicle, from behind a vehicle or another obstacle that restricts visibility of the road
    • slowing down or stopping without justified need
    • running across the road
    • walking on the trackway
    • entering the trackway when the barriers or half-barriers are lowered or their lowering has begun
    • crossing the road at a place where a safety device or obstacle separates the roadway.
