A Ukrainian national, now 55, committed an armed robbery using a dangerous tool in the Zgorzelec municipality in 1998. He then fled the country. For nearly 20 years, he had been hiding from law enforcement authorities.
He was caught thanks to cooperation between the police and the Border Guard when he attempted to cross the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The 55-year-old was taken to a penal institution. He may face up to 15 years in prison.
