During an October inspection, police officers confiscated the registration certificates of 15 buses belonging to various carriers. “We try to inspect all buses. We make no exceptions,” Adam Szewczyk, head of the Bolesławiec traffic police, told IstotneInformacje.pl.Adam Szewczyk

The most common defects are: poor tires, improper lighting and faulty brakes. If an inspection reveals that a bus poses a danger on the road, police take it off the road, and the company must provide another vehicle. “We always explain to passengers that this is for their own good. There are quite a lot of accidents involving buses,” Szewczyk explains.

Police also check the technical condition of vehicles leaving the country. “There has been a significant improvement,” notes the head of the traffic division. “Two or three years ago, almost every inspection ended with a bus being taken out of service. Currently, this is not a problem in Bolesławiec,” he adds.

“The registration certificates were handed over to the Department of Communications and Transport of the Bolesławiec County Office,” says Majka Nowak, a spokesperson for the office. – “And they will remain there until the carriers provide certificates confirming that the vehicles are operational.”Majka Nowak

Unfortunately, Majka Nowak did not want to reveal whether vehicles belonging to the Municipal Transport Company and the State Motor Transport Company were among the buses taken out of service. “As a major carrier, PKS cannot afford to allow a defective bus that threatens passenger safety onto the roads,” Bolesław Dziedzic, director of passenger transport, told us. However, he added that he did not know whether police had confiscated the registration certificate of any PKS vehicle: “I do not deal with technical matters.”Bolesław Dziedzic

Andrzej Jagiera, president of MZK, gave similar answers to our questions.Andrzej JagieraAt the end of the conversation, however, he added: “We have not had a problem with this.”
