A white Renault has been parked in the lot at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec for about a year and a half. It has no license plates (one is inside, behind the windshield), one wheel is missing, and another has already gone flat. The mirrors are bent, and the windshield is cracked.

What is more, someone tore off the fuel filler flap. (This could be dangerous if some vandal, of whom there is certainly no shortage in Bolesławiec, got the idea of, for example, throwing a match in there.)

The principal of “the second school,” Mirosław Sakowski, intervened in the matter with both the Municipal Police and the police. “Article 50a of the Road Traffic Act clearly states the circumstances in which the police or municipal police may tow away a car. This applies exclusively to public roads. This is not a public road; it is private property,” istotne.pl is told by Kamila Chalewicz-Pudłowska, head of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police.

Municipal police officers often intervene in such cases, but only when the matter concerns public roads. “We always then call on the owner to remove such a vehicle,” the commander adds. So far, K. Chalewicz-Pudłowska emphasizes, there has been only one situation in which an owner, who had been notified twice, failed to remove their property. By decision of the Municipal Police, the car was towed to a parking lot designated by the district governor.

What next? The principal of II LO will write to the Bolesławiec traffic police requesting disclosure of the car owner’s identity. We will return to the subject.
