The exhibition “The Magic of Italian Ceramics. Vessels from Vietri sul Mare”
The exhibition will present more than 170 objects from 18 workshops currently operating in the Italian town of Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast. These are mainly ceramic vessels decorated with figurative and plant motifs, and less frequently with geometric ornaments. The decorations often refer to the Vietrese naïve style, created by Irena Kowaliska, an artist of Polish origin who came to the Amalfi Coast in the 1930s and inspired Italian ceramicists through her work. The exhibition is accompanied by two free Polish-Italian catalogues: “Irene Kowaliska. In the Mediterranean Myth / Nel mito del Mediterraneo” and “Stoviglierie Vietresi. The Magic of Italian Ceramics. Vessels from Vietri sul Mare”. The exhibition was prepared by the Ceramics Museum in Bolesławiec in cooperation with the Association of Ceramic Municipalities of the Republic of Poland, the Municipality of Bolesławiec, the Municipality of Vietri sul Mare, the Italian Cultural Institute in Kraków, and the Italian-Polish Association in Salerno and the Province (A.I.P.SA.P.). The Polish curator of the exhibition is Anna Bober-Tubaj, while the Italian curators are Mario Montera and Pietro Amos; Ewa Widak, president of A.I.P.SA.P., is the coordinator of the Polish-Italian project. The organisation of the exhibition was also supported by Ewa Mamaj, Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Rome, and Prof. Agnieszka Bender, director of the Polish Institute in Rome.
The exhibition has received honorary patronage from: the Province of Salerno, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Naples, the Polish Institute in Rome, the Honorary Consulate of the Italian Republic in Kraków, the Honorary Consulate of the Italian Republic in Wrocław, the Italian Association of Ceramic Cities (AiCC), and the European Association of Ceramic Cities (AEiCC).
