BKS’s senior team will play in the regional league. The team from Bolesławiec were promoted because a place became available in the Jelenia Góra regional league. BKS will take the place of GKS Raciborowice, who have been experiencing financial and personnel problems for some time. Due to the difficult situation, the GKS Raciborowice board submitted a request to OZPN Jelenia Góra for the relegation of the senior team from the regional league to Class A. The club’s licence to continue playing in the regional league was withdrawn, enabling it to begin competing in Class A Group III. Had the team withdrawn during the competition, it would have been punished with relegation by two divisions.
As we read in the statement on the GKS Raciborowice website:
(...) After the end of the 2016/2017 season, unforeseen changes took place at the club, involving the main sponsor and the players themselves, as well as confusion involving the coaches and the board. All these factors meant that, for the time being, only people who care about the club’s welfare remained at GKS. A few individuals took on the task of saving the club, with its excellent facilities and great traditions. After one of the main sponsors withdrew, the board had to reassess its goals and ambitions. The need to close the club’s 2017 budget—heavily strained in the first half of 2017—led to the introduction of a recovery and austerity plan. Thanks to the support of the municipal authorities and the steps taken by the current board, the club’s budget will probably be closed without difficulty. These steps involved making decisions that were very difficult for us. The first was withdrawing from the Older Juniors competition—although the main reason here was not financial, but rather the attitude of some players toward the game and the problem of assembling a squad. Junior players who wish to support the senior team will continue to develop at our club. We believe that moving such young players to the senior team need not be a cause for concern. The boys will play at a lower competitive level, as the board submitted a request to OZPN Jelenia Góra for the relegation of the senior team from the regional league to Class A. The request was approved, so from the new 2017/2018 season we will play in Class A. This step will significantly reduce the costs of running the club and help us build the team calmly for the coming years. The team will be built by Mr Władysław Moroch, who, after a temporary absence, is returning to us with the desire to provide support and assistance during these difficult times (...)
BKS’s promotion from second place proves that it is always worth fighting until the end. The team, led by Tomasz Fulczyński and Mariusz Rutkowski, fought to the very end, finishing second and recording the best record among the runners-up in the Jelenia Góra Class A. Let us recall that TS Parzyce earned promotion from first place in Group III.
That is not the end of the good news from the Bolesławiec club. It was not only the senior team that were promoted, but also the older juniors and younger juniors (promotion to the Lower Silesian Junior League), as well as the youth team coached by Grzegorz Faltyn (from the local league to the regional league). In other words, this year BKS and its supporters can celebrate four promotions.
