The incident occurred at around midnight on Road No. 4, before the town of Godzieszów. The truck driver was traveling from the direction of Bolesławiec. The man veered into a roadside ditch just before the crossing over the motorway under construction. The truck driver was drunk. He had more than 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. He was detained by the police. "Driving a vehicle while intoxicated is punishable by up to two years in prison," Adriana Szajwaj of the Bolesławiec police told the IstotneInformacje.pl website. In addition, the truck driver was transporting a heavy load. "There was an 18-ton locomotive on the trailer," adds Adriana Szajwaj.

"We were traveling from Wrocław to Germany," explains the man who was escorting the truck. "I saw in the right-hand mirror that the vehicle was veering into the ditch on its own. The driver was not making any maneuvers," he adds. The escort says that he had spoken with the truck driver earlier and that there was no indication that the man had been drinking alcohol.
