On Saturday, young and adult Zagłębie Lubin footballers, together with the club president and coaching staff, visited Bolesławiec. The Football Stars for Children event was organized by BKS and the Inter-School Sports Centre. In this way, the organizers thanked the BKS Orliki and their coach for winning the Lower Silesian Championship.
At 10:30 a.m., an indoor football tournament for youth players (born in 1996/97) began in the I LO sports hall. The tournament was opened by two players from the Lubin first-division team: Robert Kolendowicz and Michał Stasiak. Five teams competed: two from Lubin, two from Bolesławiec and one from Chojnów—in total, more than 50 young players.
The matches lasted 12 minutes and were played in a round-robin format. The tournament was won by Zagłębie Lubin’s second team (12 points). Zagłębie’s first team took second place (9 points). BKS Bobrzanie’s first team finished third (6 points). BKS’s second team came fourth (3 points), while Chojnowianka Chojnów finished last (0 points).
While the young footballers competed, a delegation from Zagłębie and BKS (footballers Robert Kolendowicz and Michał Stasiak, club president Paweł Jeż and BKS vice-president Bartosz Kubica) visited a children’s home. The children received St. Nicholas’ Day gifts.
At 1:30 p.m., a match between Zagłębie Lubin and BKS Bobrzanie began at the Water and Sports Centre field on Spacerowa Street. Several players from Zagłębie’s first-division squad took part, including Kopył and Kocot. The rest of the lineup consisted of players competing in the third division. Zagłębie naturally had the advantage, but the Bolesławiec team also had its moments. Proof of this was the consolation goal scored by Błażej Rajchel with a header after a corner in the 35th minute. BKS lost to Zagłębie 1–4. Lubin’s goals were scored by Rakowski in the 20th and 89th minutes, Chyła in the 23rd minute and Fryzowicz in the 69th minute. Many Bolesławiec supporters complained about the venue and the fact that they had to watch the match standing for two hours.
The final event of the football day in Bolesławiec was a press conference. It was held at the headquarters of Dobry Doradca on Łokietka Street. Zagłębie president Paweł Jeż presented journalists with a visualization of Zagłębie Lubin’s new stadium. The stadium was scheduled to open in March of the following year. The facility, worth more than PLN 100 million, was to accommodate 16,000 supporters. During the conference, an agreement was signed between KGHM Zagłębie Lubin and Dobry Doradca, which became the club’s sponsor.
Paweł Jeż and Bartosz Kubica also announced cooperation between Zagłębie Lubin and BKS Bobrzanie. As part of the cooperation, several young-league matches involving Zagłębie’s team are to be held in Bolesławiec. “We hope that we will be able to play two or three matches in Bolesławiec,” Bartosz Kubica said during the conference. He also thanked everyone who had made Saturday’s event possible. The BKS vice-president also announced that, at the end of June the following year, the club would try to organize a sporting event involving two top-division teams and BKS.
“We talked about cooperation on organizing tournaments such as today’s,” Paweł Jeż said during the conference. This means that BKS’s young footballers will be invited to tournaments organized by Zagłębie Lubin. Teams from Lubin will also come to our city. “We also discussed the possibility of loaning players who are not yet aspiring to Zagłębie’s first team but could develop in Bolesławiec,” president Jeż added. The Zagłębie president also expressed hope that BKS would be promoted to the third division. In his view, promotion to the third division should be the goal of both the club itself and the city authorities.
