A very interesting project has been submitted to the program. It aims to bring back to “life” a more than 4-kilometre XC cycling route that existed many years ago in the municipal woodland on Piastów Street (around Jenny Tower). The project involves organizing, on March 31 next year, an international XC cycling competition opening the 2018 cycling season, preceded by a thorough preparation, renovation and reconstruction of the route that once existed there. The initiators plan to build infrastructure characteristic of this type of route—so-called rock gardens, ramps and similar features.
Interestingly, the idea for the project originated with a member of Bolesławiec’s largest club, Xtrabike Bolesławiec, and received the support of another Bolesławiec club, BIKESTACJA, represented by, among others, Szczepan Paszek, Rafał Iwan and Łukasz Ryż—leading MTB and XC competitors in Lower Silesia and Poland, including Polish and Lower Silesian champions in previous years.
Mariusz Lickiewicz, the originator of the idea and vice-president of Xtrabike Bolesławiec, organizer and director of the “Ceramic Xtrabike MTB Marathon” and this year’s “Bolesławiec County Street Criterion”:
Even I, a complete amateur cyclist who rides only somewhat more competitively, see the need to have a route “close at hand” that would give Bolesławiec cyclists the opportunity to train in demanding conditions practically at any time of day, and cyclists from the wider Bolesławiec area a chance to train on a professional route without having to travel many kilometres.
Łukasz Ryż:
Racing together gives us the impetus to work together. We can sit down, talk, laugh and plan something that will serve not just a few people, but a broader group. Cycling is not only competition and fierce battles on the route, but also friendships, cooperation and mutual assistance.
Szczepan Paszek:
Our initiative is an excellent example of how competitors can cooperate despite differences in club affiliation, competitive level and skills. We must seize the opportunity provided by the #aktywnydolnyslask program.
Rafał Iwan:
We are aiming high. If we manage to obtain funding from the program—we are also counting on support from local governments—a route will be created that all competitors from the surrounding area will envy. It will give us the opportunity to organize championship-level sporting events in the following years.
It is worth emphasizing that Bolesławiec project no. 52 is THE ONLY cycling project among the 61 submitted across the entire Lower Silesia region. We encourage you to vote. WE MUST WIN THIS for Bolesławiec.
