The case came to light when one of the headteachers of a lower secondary school near Wałbrzych began looking for children who had stopped attending school. Someone reported that they had all moved to Bolesławiec. The headteacher called our education department. It turned out that one of the children was enrolled in a Bolesławiec kindergarten.

“I asked the police to check the address and see whether there were children there,” Krystyna Boratyńska, head of the education department, told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. It turned out that nine children, aged between 4 and 18, lived in one apartment; the oldest girl had a two-month-old baby. Their parents were not there. As we learned, they had been working abroad for a long time and only visited Poland from time to time.

The conditions in which the children lived were appalling. “It cannot be described. There were no doors, and the ceiling was in danger of collapsing. I had to intervene,” said Krystyna Boratyńska. The department head obtained a court order to move the children to a safe place. Cezariusz Rudyk, who manages a school dormitory in Bolesławiec, provided assistance. The children were taken there.

The children’s neighbors had noticed that something was wrong. “I saw those children. They were practically in the yard all the time. The man who looked after them, although I do not know whether he was their father, would drive up in a fairly decent Mercedes from time to time,” Rafał Dorosz

, who lives opposite the building where the children stayed, told the IstotneInfromacje.pl portal. At present, the siblings are staying in the school dormitory. As Krystyna Boratyńska told us, the children will be sent to kindergartens and schools today. The court will decide what happens to them later.
