The incident occurred in Lubiatów, when officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja decided to stop a Renault passenger car for a check. Despite clear signals to stop, the man behind the wheel, seeing a police car, accelerated. The officers began pursuing him. Despite using visual and audible signals, the man continued fleeing for several kilometres. When the officers attempted to overtake him on a straight section of road, the driver suddenly stopped his car and continued fleeing in reverse. Unfortunately, he lost control of the vehicle, hit a wall, damaging one tyre, then struck a roadside tree and drove into a ditch. He continued his escape on foot through nearby fields, but was detained by the uniformed officers after a few metres.

As it turned out, the 55-year-old Bolesławiec resident failed to stop for the check because he did not have a driving licence and feared the consequences. In addition, an alcohol test showed 0.2 per mille in his body. A court will now decide the man's further fate. Under the regulations in force since 1 June this year, he faces up to 5 years in prison for the crime of failing to stop for a traffic check.
