Under the article There will be another section of bicycle path in Warta a comment by a Reader appeared: “We kept hearing from the heads of Bolesławiec municipality: »We will not build a bicycle path on the railway track bed—for it belongs to the railway, because Warta municipality will not extend it anyway, because there are more important matters, because fibre-optic cables are being laid, because the city does not want it«.”

“The bicycle path from the roundabout on the border of the city of Bolesławiec and Kruszyn to Grodziec Castle, but within the boundaries of Bolesławiec municipality, has long been planned for construction by the municipality. The section running through our area is approximately 3.6 km long,” says Roman Jaworski, deputy head of Bolesławiec municipality.

Bolesławiec municipality took over the land from the railway in December 2010. In April 2014, it amended the local zoning plan, enabling it to begin preparing the design documentation. The documentation was completed at the end of last year; a building permit decision has also been issued.

“During this time, we sought opportunities to obtain funding for this project from various sources and talked with our partner municipality, Bernsdorf, so that it could be carried out as part of cross-border projects,” explains the deputy head of the municipality. “However, the German side is not yet ready for this. Without external funding, creating such a path will probably be impossible, because the cost of this undertaking is estimated at the enormous sum of over 2.1 million zlotys. Another important matter beyond our control is connecting the path to the city, which will only be possible after a new roundabout is built in Kruszyn, as well as connecting it to Grodziec Castle itself.”

Deputy head of the municipality Andrzej Dutkowski adds: “In other localities, as part of the prepared studies and local zoning plans, we envisage the possibility of creating new bicycle paths that will enable cyclists to move around our municipality easily and safely.”
