Four classes from the Construction School Complex in Bolesławiec took part in the activities. “Unfortunately, young people’s inability to maintain abstinence is fairly common,” the organisers say. “The programme aimed to debunk normative beliefs, that is, myths. Participants built an ark from the values they most often identified as important.”
According to the young people, Love, Family, Friendship and Freedom are reasons why it is worth rejecting addictions. The students actively participated in the workshops: among other things, they played various roles, created skits and willingly answered the questions asked. At the end of the programme, the instructor shared his personal testimony, describing his own alcohol problem during his school years and his perseverance in sobriety.
Participants learned the basics of alcohol addiction and codependency, the functioning of children living in families affected by an alcohol problem, as well as factors predisposing people to reach for alcohol.
The activities were held as part of the original programme created by educators from the Bolesławiec Voluntary Labour Corps, “I Choose Life! I Don’t Take Drugs!”, co-financed by Bolesławiec City Hall.
