Patryk U., a resident of one of the towns near Bolesławiec, has been remanded in custody by the court. The Wrocław District Prosecutor’s Office brought two charges against him. The man will be held responsible, among other things, for causing a fatal accident.

Let us recall: on Saturday night, Wrocław police officers noticed a passing Volkswagen Jetta near Podwale. When he saw the officers, the driver turned the car around and began to flee. The police gave chase. The fleeing driver lost control of the vehicle on Grunwaldzki Bridge. He drove into a group of people. A 22-year-old passer-by died at the scene, and two people were taken to hospital. At the time of his arrest, the driver was completely drunk. He had a blood alcohol level of 1.5 per mille. As he testified, he stole the car because he had argued with his girlfriend.

The perpetrator confessed to committing the acts with which he was charged. However, he claims that he was not fleeing from the police because he did not realize at all that he was being pursued.

The man now faces up to 12 years in prison.
