MP Tomasz Siemoniak, former head of the Ministry of National Defence, MP Elżbieta Gapińska and MP Grzegorz Furga tried to convince us that by joining Civic Platform we would win a better Poland. Asked in detail how they intended to do this, Furga proposed: good structures, money, proven local-government officials, and the ambitions of leaders.
– I believe in Civic Platform’s leaders, said Grzegorz Furga. – The opposition must stand with the big one. Who has the strength to stand up to the dictator, the little one that Kaczyński is?! Only Schetyna. Only he can undertake a bloody fight with his party behind him, added the determined PiS-eater.
Tomasz Siemioniak was more restrained. He assured listeners that he would not take 500+ away from Poles and that there was no proven recipe for winning new voters.
– It is not the case that we received something once and for all, said Siemioniak. – It may change; it is in people’s interest to act, to be active, and to strive for change.
Furga was more decisive and promised that Civic Platform would no longer turn the other cheek, but would return blow for blow. He also revealed that a fight over the licence fee and public television, which he called “national” and taken over by PiS, was brewing in the Sejm.
The main message of the meeting was this: help us destroy PiS, and then everything will be fine, because we know how to govern. Can this simple programme be trusted? Haven’t we already experienced this by any chance, and is it impossible to return to it? Will we let ourselves be... persuaded?
Judging by the voices from the room, Civic Platform still has many ardent supporters, but the voices of people disappointed by Civic Platform’s actions are equally strong. The nearly two-hour recording of the meeting can be watched in two parts below. Share your opinion in the poll as well.
