At the beginning of April, Nowogrodziec Mayor Robert Relich signed an agreement for construction work involving the redevelopment of the former gymnasium in the building of the former Evangelical church at 39 Lubańska Street in Nowogrodziec. The investment will be carried out by a consortium of Axyo.pl and Filigran, companies from Jelenia Góra.

The main aim of the project is to protect and promote the cultural heritage of Lower Silesia. A multipurpose hall will be created in the former historic Evangelical church, where concerts, performances, film screenings, exhibitions and conferences can be organized. “The beneficiaries of the project are primarily the local community, which will be able to use new forms of cultural activity on a daily basis, as well as tourists,” municipal officials say.

The Nowogrodziec gmina is home to many architectural monuments, including religious buildings. A significant number of them have been destroyed, while others have been adapted to meet the needs of the local community. One such building is the Evangelical church from 1886, which functioned as the municipal gymnasium for nearly 30 years of the 20th century. The inability to expand the facility and create suitable conditions for practicing sports meant that, after a modern sports hall was built in Nowogrodziec, the gymnasium in the former church no longer served its purpose. Therefore, a decision was made to thoroughly redevelop the building at Lubańska Street into a modern, multipurpose facility.

Nowogrodziec officials add that the Gmina currently lacks infrastructure suitable for organizing diverse regional and international events. Cultural activity is based on the poorly equipped premises of the Gminne Centrum Kultury i Sportu in Nowogrodziec and small village community centers.

The investment is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of next year. Good news?
