One of the most important cultural events of the year! The exhibition opening took place on 7 November at the Długa Gallery. “Marc Chagall is one of the most outstanding figures in the history of art,” Radosław Gajewski from the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre tells the IstotneInformacje.pl news portal. “He can be placed alongside Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse,” he adds.
The exhibition presents original lithographs by the French painter. Forty-four of them are illustrations for the Bible. Chagall worked with the greatest artists of the 20th century. Until the end of his life, however, he remained a Russian Jew who felt most at ease speaking with people in the language of his childhood.
His style combines symbolism and expressionism. As Maria Poprzęcka wrote in the text “Beyond the Avant-Gardes,” Chagall was shaped above all by “a thoroughly poetic imagination, filled with memories of childhood and youth, brought from Jewish villages and small towns, their traditions, customs and folklore.”
The exhibition can be visited until 29 November (daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Tickets cost PLN 4.
