Bolesławiec Municipality plans to build a pavement along the road from Kruszyn to Łaziska (Leszczynowa Street), our Reader informed us. And added: “By a strange coincidence, the pavement on the left-hand side is supposed to end level with the property of the village head, who is also a councillor in the Municipality. Is this some strange coincidence?”
What is the truth? Roman Jaworski, deputy head of Bolesławiec Municipality:
Taking into account numerous appeals from residents of this part of Kruszyn to improve safety on the county road, Bolesławiec Municipality decided to allocate money for construction works related to building the pavement, while the County Office would prepare the design documentation as the owner of the road. Funds for this task were secured in the Municipality’s 2017 budget; it covers construction of a pavement from Lipowa Street to municipal road no. 103971D.
The Municipality would like to carry out a larger scope of work, even through the entire village of Łaziska, but at present the County Office, as the owner, does not have the appropriate land.
The owners of the land on the left side of the road toward Łaziska, including the village head of Kruszyn, agreed to make parts of their land available for the project. The owner of the land on the opposite side did not agree to transfer part of it.
Consequently, it was decided that the pavement would run along the left side up to the end of the plot belonging to the last resident who made land available—in this case, the village head himself. His property ends where a wall and fence make it impossible to continue the pavement on that side. For this reason, a safe pedestrian crossing to the right side of the road will be built at this point. On the right side, approximately 95 metres earlier, a pavement toward Łaziska will run parallel to the road from the first building.
The location of the pedestrian crossing at this point is also supported by the fact that drivers using this road who fail to observe the speed limits could pose a danger to people crossing Leszczynowa Street. Pedestrians will have the best visibility and reaction time if the crossing is located precisely by this street.
The deputy head emphasizes: “The fact that the village head of Kruszyn, who is also a councillor on the Bolesławiec Municipal Council, lives by this road had no influence on the decision about which side the pavement would run along.”
The amount allocated for this purpose in the budget is PLN 250,000. The final cost of the project will be determined after the tender. Bids will be opened on 24 May, and the investment is scheduled for completion in the second half of August this year.
