The co-organizer of the fundraiser for a new orthosis for Krystyna Żak from Bolesławiec is film director and cinematographer Szymon Wasylów, who learned about Krystyna’s situation from her daughters: Idalia and Magda.
In childhood, Krystyna Żak suffered from polio. Unfortunately, the Bolesławiec resident was among the 0.1% of those infected who developed the paralytic form, causing muscle atrophy. As a result, the woman’s left leg is as much as 16 cm shorter than the other.
A specialized orthosis has compensated for this considerable difference in limb length for years. But its time has long passed. The device keeps breaking down and causes Krystyna pain. What is more, it is becoming downright dangerous—it can come undone or “fold up” on the way to the shops. This is very outdated orthopedic equipment, extremely heavy (3 kg), and it prevents her from, for example, using a swimming pool or being outdoors in difficult weather conditions. All this means that the woman must also walk with crutches.
A new orthosis—waterproof, lightweight, made from modern materials, and very comfortable—would allow the Bolesławiec resident to truly start living. Unfortunately, its cost is astronomical: more than PLN 30,000.
Some of the money has already been raised. But approximately PLN 27,000 is still missing. LET’S HELP THE BOLESŁAWIEC WOMAN! Money can be donated via the pomagamy.im.
Those who support Krystyna with any amount will be mentioned in a special video and linked on Facebook. Details are available at pomagamy.im.
