The incident occurred on April 4. Around 11:00 p.m., a woman called the police emergency number and informed officers that a probably drunk mother was transporting her child in a passenger car.
Officers from the police station in Szklarska Poręba went to the scene. The 30-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra County was indeed driving in a zigzag pattern. A two-month-old child was also in the vehicle, placed in an unsecured carrier.
The police smelled alcohol on the woman. A test showed more than 1 per mille of alcohol in her system. The mother was taken into police custody, while her son was transported to hospital for examinations and then placed in a family emergency foster-care facility.
The police are now checking whether, by caring for the child in such a condition, the mother endangered his life or health. If this is confirmed, the 30-year-old could face up to 5 years in prison. The family court will also be notified.
