Earth Hour is a campaign run by the international environmental organization World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It is held on the last Saturday of March. WWF encourages people to switch off lights and illuminations at 8:30 p.m. for one hour. Many cities have joined the initiative. The illuminations of Katowice’s Spodek, Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science, and Kraków’s St. Mary’s Basilica were switched off.

Unfortunately, everything in Bolesławiec is shining just as it did before. The city authorities showed no interest in the campaign.

The “Earth Hour” campaign is, of course, symbolic in nature and has virtually no effect on energy savings. However, it draws attention to environmental protection, which is its main purpose.
