In September 2006, we reported that the railway viaduct was another historic landmark to be illuminated. In April this year, we reported that a contract for the modernization of the structure had been signed at the Warsaw headquarters of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe. The illumination was removed for the duration of the renovation.

The modernization work is scheduled to be completed in December 2009. The lighting will then be installed again. As we have established, dismantling and storing the illumination will cost the Municipality of Bolesławiec approximately PLN 45,000. Why was the lighting not installed after the viaduct renovation? “PKP did not provide any information about dates for a possible renovation of the viaduct,” Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec municipal authorities, wrote in an email to the editorial office. – “The task was carried out in accordance with the agreement, the planned work schedule and PKP requirements.”

“We could not provide an exact date for the modernization,” says Mirosław Siemieniec, press spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe. “A major undertaking such as the modernization of a railway line has its stages. Subsequent tasks are related to tenders. Delays do happen,” he adds.

An even more beautiful viaduct?

As Agnieszka Gergont explained, negotiations are under way to install additional floodlights. If they are successful, the Bolesławiec viaduct will also be illuminated from the front.
