The incident occurred on 22 March at around 1 p.m. In one of the towns near Jelenia Góra, officers stopped an Opel for a roadside inspection. The driver turned out to be a 57-year-old resident of Kowary, who was transporting nearly 41 kg of tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings on the back seat. In addition, officers found a zip-lock bag containing 0.5 kg of tobacco in his apartment.
The losses suffered by the State Treasury were initially estimated at PLN 31,000. Police officers are currently clarifying the circumstances of the case in detail, including where the seized goods came from and who they were intended for.
The man will answer for his actions in court.
