Under one of our articles, a reader suggested:
You should tell the people of the Bolesławiec area what happened to the stone commemorating the Gross-Rosen concentration camp subcamp, which stood on Staroszkolna Street, because only an empty space remains where the monument was… And just a year ago it was still standing there… I wonder whom it bothered. After all, the children who grow up one day will not know that something like this [tu] existed…
We asked Zdzisław Abramowicz, a history enthusiast and expert on Bolesławiec’s history, about it. He told us that if someone had dismantled the monument because it bothered them, it would be a scandal. (It is worth adding that Z. Abramowicz attended the unveiling ceremony for the monument, which took place in the 1980s.) We then contacted city officials. They, too, heard about the matter from us.
As it turned out, the monument was indeed dismantled, by the owner of the property. But not because it bothered anyone. The object will undergo renovation and return to its place.
