The ceremonial opening of the new gymnasium at Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 2 took place on Tuesday, October 14. “I am very happy,” Stanisława Patreuha, the school’s principal, tells the IstotneInformacje.pl portal.Stanisława Patreuha – “Today I can see prospects for the school’s development.”
More than 640 children currently attend Gimnazjum nr 2. Until now, physical education classes were held in various places—either in the corridor or outdoors. What is more, the school rented a gymnasium at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące. “Our teachers know how to work under any conditions,” Patreuha assures us.
Indeed, despite less-than-ideal conditions for practicing sports, the school’s students won the titles of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County champions many times, as well as taking high places in regional and national competitions. From October 14 onward, however, neither the physical education teachers nor the students will have any reason to complain. The new gymnasium has an area of more than 1,700 m². “Perhaps this investment will help uncover a talent capable of reaching the level of Olympic champions,” Stanisława Patreuha said during the ceremony.
Everyone who attended the opening of the newly built gymnasium had the opportunity to watch an artistic program performed by students of Gimnazjum nr 2. “We wanted to show the different faces of sport—not only sport as physical fitness, but also strength of character, nobility and responsibility,” says Ewa Ołenicz-Bernacka, a teacher and co-author of the program. “Sport has a great deal in common with theater and dance. It is an art—and no ordinary art at that,” she adds.
There were also impressive displays of athletic ability and… plenty of humor. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Polish champions and graduates of Gimnazjum nr 2—Katarzyna Romaszko and Partyk Dudyński.
Roman GolubińskiRoman Golubiński from the Wrocław Board of Education also spoke during the ceremony. While extending wishes to the teachers on the occasion of National Education Day, he paraphrased words from The Little Prince: “You have the right to demand obedience if your orders are reasonable. The eyes are blind; you must look with your heart.” He added: “The Little Prince is within each of us. Let us do everything so that he can find a place in the hearts and minds of our young people.”
During Tuesday’s ceremony, people who had made outstanding contributions to education in Bolesławiec received awards from Mayor Piotr Roman and the principal of Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 2. Stanisława Patreuha also honored the school’s non-teaching staff.
