Anna Wolska, a friend of leukemia patient Dominika Lehmann and the campaign’s initiator:
I am delighted to announce that the “Help Dominika and Others” campaign, held last weekend, achieved an excellent result. A total of 351 potential bone marrow donors registered at all the locations. This is a very good result.
On behalf of myself, as well as Dominika Lehmann, her family and friends, I would like to thank everyone who helped organize the campaign and contributed to promoting it, as well as those who encouraged people to register on the DKMS Foundation website. We are very grateful to the Bolesławiec news portals, Azart Sat television, Bolesławiec City Hall, the Osiecznica Municipality, and the schools and preschools that joined the campaign, as well as to the priests who informed parishioners about registration during Mass.
Thanks for their help also go to the Neograf and AFG printing houses for printing banners and educational materials for schools. We thank everyone who provided venues for registration or agreed to have posters put up in their shops, offices and workplaces. Many thanks go to the volunteers, the DKMS Foundation and, above all, those who registered. Thank you very much.
Let us recall: in the article Help Dominika fight leukemia! Register we reported that in July 2016, doctors diagnosed Dominika with acute myeloid leukemia. The fight for every day of life began. It is now known that Dominika’s only chance of recovery is a transplant of blood stem cells from an unrelated donor. Unfortunately, despite more than 1,100,000 potential donors registered in Poland’s Poltransplant registry and more than 29 million in databases around the world, there is currently no donor genetically compatible with Dominika.
“Dominika initially had 11 donors, and all of them were ruled out,” her friend Anna Wolska told us. “First I wrote to the media asking them to encourage people to register online, on the DKMS website, but I decided that might not be enough. So I wrote to the Foundation, asking it to organize this campaign.”
