On Sunday (5 October), TOP Bolesławiec’s volleyball players began their junior competition season. Their opponents were Gwardia Wrocław. The beginning of the match was evenly contested. In the middle of the first set, the Bolesławiec players began making serving errors (8 points lost in this aspect of the game). In addition, a lack of defensive coverage and attacks going out of bounds meant that the first set ended in a 25:18 defeat for TOP.

In the second set, setter Paweł Nastula was replaced by Marcin Czarniecki. After the change, our volleyball players’ style of play improved significantly. TOP’s middle blockers, Krzysztof Bandrow and Mateusz Świerzewski, performed well in attack. The Bolesławiec players managed to stop Gwardia’s attackers with blocks several times. The second set ended 25:22 in TOP’s favor.

The third set was already controlled by TOP. Bogusław Mienculewicz’s players attacked effectively and defended intelligently. The fans watched good serves and effective counterattacks. At times, TOP completely outclassed Gwardia. The Bolesławiec players led by as many as 19:9 before ultimately winning 25:17.

TOP played poorly in the fourth set. Errors in receiving serves, late blocks and attacks going out of bounds led to a 25:18 defeat for the Bolesławiec players. The match was decided in the tie-break. Bogusław Mienculewicz’s players began the decisive set particularly focused. Gwardia, meanwhile, played nervously. With TOP leading 14:11 and Gwardia serving, the Bolesławiec coach called a timeout. It proved to be a very good tactical move. Server Krzysztof Baran became so distracted that he hit the ball into the net, giving TOP its 15th point in the tie-break and a 3–2 victory in the match.

TOP Bolesławiec defeated Gwardia Wrocław 3–2 (18:25, 25:22, 25:17, 18:25, 15:11). More than 130 fans watched the match. Bolesławiec played with: Marcin Czarniecki (C), Paweł Nastula, Mateusz Świerzewski, Krzysztof Bandrow, Wojciech Marcinkiewicz, Tomasz Włoszczyński, Roman Kaczurowski, Kamil Biczak (L), Paweł Wiatrowski, Radosław Turczyński, Michał Bartkowiak and Marcin Lelek. The coach is Bogusław Mienculewicz.

In their next match, TOP will play Pogoń in Góra, which defeated Rosiek Syców 3–1 in the season opener. The Bolesławiec team will play at home on 19 October. TOP’s opponent will be the aforementioned Rosiek Syców. The match will take place in the sports hall of I LO at Tyrankiewiczów Street. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00.
