The istotne.pl editorial office continues to receive reports from residents of Bolesławiec concerning the pedestrian crossing on Tamka Street. According to residents, the green light for pedestrians stays on for too short a time, and some people simply cannot make it across before the light changes. There is also a problem with cars that improperly enter the intersection on a late yellow or even a red light. Other cars already have a green light, while these vehicles are still in the middle of the intersection.

What do the services responsible for the area say? According to Leszek Różewicz of the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei, the traffic-light settings and traffic organization at this intersection were changed because the previous ones did not comply with regulations. He also admitted that DSDiK receives reports about problems at this location. “We are monitoring the situation at this intersection,” he assured istotne.pl in an interview with Leszek Różewicz. He added that, if necessary, the traffic organization would be improved. Decisions on the matter may perhaps be made as early as spring. For now, the services are analyzing the situation and the information they receive.

According to our interviewee, if a pedestrian enters the crossing on a green light, they have the right to leave it even if the light turns red while they are crossing. The DSDiK representative also drew attention to the fact that the exit from beneath the viaduct, from Kościuszki Street (to the left), conflicts with pedestrian traffic at this crossing. In his view, this is permitted, but in that case the car driver has an absolute obligation to yield to pedestrians. DSDiK contacted the police on this matter, asking them to pay attention to the situation.

Another problem at this intersection occurs when drivers traveling straight from Tamka Street, who get a green light, cannot move off immediately because two or three cars are still coming from Kościuszki Street. However, this situation is not related to incorrect traffic-light settings, but to the fact that some drivers enter from Kościuszki Street on a so-called late yellow or even an early red light.

DSDiK remains in contact with the District Roads Authority in Bolesławiec, which recently submitted a request for this intersection to be reanalyzed. Comments concerning irregularities at the intersection can be reported both to the District Roads Authority in Bolesławiec, tel. 75 644 69 35, and to the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei in Wrocław, tel. 71 391 71 00.
