The hip-hop adventure of two men from Bolesławiec – Albert and Piotr – began in 2001. Both quickly came to the conclusion that they did not intend to be merely passive listeners. “We wanted to create something of our own,” Piotr says. They invested in equipment. They bought a mixer and a turntable. They began creating their first sounds and first records – initially mainly for themselves.

Over the past few years, they have been involved in many music projects. One of the best known was BZU (Bezpośrednio Z Ulicy), which brought together hip-hop artists from Bolesławiec, Wrocław and Gryfów. Albert and Piotr currently form the group Kategoria. “Prestiż,” the lineup's debut album, is due to be released on October 6. On the same day, the duo will make a free version of the album available on its Myspace.com profile.

The record will contain 11 tracks. “We put a lot of work into this album,” says Piotr, rapper and producer. “The album is very diverse thematically,” emphasizes Albert, rapper and saxophonist. – “Everyone can find something for themselves.” In their lyrics, the members of Kategoria address both serious topics (politics) and more down-to-earth ones (one track is about disliking going to stores). All of it is seasoned with a generous dose of humor. “When it comes to the lyrics, we try to be ourselves,” Piotr admits.

How would they describe their music? “Juicy funky hip-hop,” says Piotr. He adds that he tries not to model himself on other artists, although he greatly values the production work of such artists as Dr. Dre and J Dilla.

Plans

“Everyone wants to have as many listeners as possible,” Piotr states. For this reason, they both plan to send their demo records to several independent labels. They are also considering making a music video. “Hip-hop is something very important to us. I don't know whether I could live without this music,” Albert adds.
