The incident occurred on Monday, January 23, at the intersection of Żytnia and Jaworzyńska streets in Legnica. (The duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters received the report at approximately 5:50 p.m.) As officers determined, the 69-year-old bus driver made an improper turn and hit a tree, then drove into a safety barrier, which completely immobilized the vehicle. Fortunately, there was no one else on the bus apart from the driver.
What is more, the police officers noticed that the man was having trouble maintaining his balance; they detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. As it turned out, he was completely drunk. The test showed nearly 2.4 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.
The 69-year-old man's driving licence was confiscated. He now also faces up to two years in prison.
