On Monday, January 16, the “Mechanik” assembly hall hosted a first-aid demonstration by mine rescue workers from the Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine Rescue Station. Students from the Mining Technology class had the opportunity to learn how to assist an injured person and someone experiencing respiratory and cardiac arrest. The miners visiting “Mechanik” also presented equipment used in mine rescue operations.

The rescuers from KSRG Polkowice-Sieroszowice visited Bolesławiec for the first time. It was also their first first-aid demonstration at an upper-secondary school; they had previously visited primary schools in the Głogów and Lubin areas. The session was led by Mariusz Szczygieł. “It is dangerous and demanding work,” he told istotne.pl, “but it brings a great deal of satisfaction.”

“These rescuers are professionals, the best of the best. They have a very tight schedule, nevertheless I managed to persuade them to come to Bolesławiec,” says Anna Fiedorowicz, an English teacher at the Mechanical Schools Complex. “We are grateful that they devoted their time to us. I think demonstrations of this kind will become our tradition.”

The meeting was opened by the head of “Mechanik,” Adam Maksymczyk, who recently became a second-degree mining director.
