A mammogram takes just a few minutes and involves taking four X-ray images. It makes it possible to identify and detect so-called asymptomatic changes (lumps and other abnormalities in the breast) at a very early stage of development, when they cannot be felt by the woman or a doctor, which significantly increases the chance of recovery.

Let us remember that only regular monitoring of our health makes it possible to assess whether dangerous disease-related changes are occurring in our bodies. Unfortunately, a satisfactory result from a previous examination does not always guarantee that our health is not currently threatened by breast cancer. Sometimes women give up subsequent examinations, thereby making it easier for the disease to develop. Cancer does not hurt and, in its initial stage, does not adversely affect our well-being, which is why it is often diagnosed too late.

“Although mammography is the most effective method of breast cancer prevention, still fewer than half of women have undergone a free examination as part of the Population-Based Programme for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer,” says Dr Małgorzata Cymerman of Lux Med Diagnostyka. “We encourage women to undergo breast cancer screening, as it is the most common malignant tumour among Polish women.”
