Every year, especially in the period leading up to New Year’s Eve, the improper handling of firecrackers and fireworks causes serious accidents. Using pyrotechnic products requires particular caution and compliance with safety rules. Let us remember that, to a large extent, safety depends on us!

Under the applicable laws, the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in public places is prohibited in Poland, with the restriction not applying on 31 December and 1 January each year. This does not mean, however, that there is complete freedom on these days, as using items containing pyrotechnic products, for example contrary to their intended purpose, may result in a number of negative consequences—not only legal ones, but above all health-related ones.

Let us take care of our own safety and that of others—buy fireworks or firecrackers only from reputable sellers. Buy only products that have the appropriate certifications, safety-class markings, the manufacturer’s details including its address, and instructions in Polish. When purchasing, let us check whether the packaging in which the materials are offered for sale is intact and free of signs of mechanical damage.

When using pyrotechnic products, strictly follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not ignore warnings and choose a suitable place for safe enjoyment. Above all, keep an appropriate distance when setting off fireworks, and do not attempt to set off firecrackers indoors, on balconies or from apartment windows.

Let us remember that pyrotechnic products may be used only by adults. Selling them to minors is punishable by a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to two years.

Let us not forget our pets—animals that may be adversely affected by the use of pyrotechnic products. Knowing how they react in such situations, let us not allow them to be frightened and let us ensure that they do not experience discomfort associated with this special night.

Those planning to spend New Year’s Eve at concerts and outdoor events should remember that pickpocketing most often occurs in crowded places. Let us consider whether it is worth taking a large amount of money or valuable jewellery with us.
