The incident occurred on 19 December at the Karkonosze State University in Jelenia Góra, after a meeting between Minister of National Education Anna Zalewska and education representatives and local government officials. The meeting concerned Minister Zalewska’s planned reform—the abolition of lower-secondary schools.
As we read on the website of the weekly “Do Rzeczy”:
The militants not only harassed the minister, but also jostled members of the delegation and shouted vulgar slogans. Chants of “democracy” and “Zalewska—demolition” could also be heard, as well as “we’ll have a talk with you” and “PiS is afraid of the nation.”
In connection with the incident, the Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office registered two proceedings:
- the first concerns an active assault on the minister, the people accompanying her, and police officers securing the visit in Jelenia Góra
- the second proceeding concerns the overstepping of powers by police officers securing the aforementioned visit.
We will return to this subject.
